Doch Newcomer sind die sechs Bandmitglieder von The Strumbellas bei Weitem nicht. In Kanada veröffentlichten sie ihr erstes Album My Father and the Hunter bereits 2012.

Gegründet wurde das Musikprojekt 2008 in Ontario. Doch der Erfolg musste lange auf sich warten lassen. Erstmals in größerem Rahmen honoriert wurde ihre Arbeit am zweiten Album We Still Move on Dance Floors. Hierfür erhielt die Band den kanadischen ECHO, den Juno Award, in der Ka-tegorie Roots & Traditional Album of the Year.
